Any Peace Corps special education volunteers?

Delmer Pectol: There aren't any on this board. There are only two RPCVs here regularly in the first place.Neither Morocco nor Jordan -- the only two countries in N Africa Middle East -- have special ed programs. (Tunisia is listed as a country, but Obama put the kibotz on re-entry into the country, so there are no volunteers there yet at all.)Your masters will not make you more competitive for Peace Corps. See this page for special education teacher training: http://www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/learn/whatvol/... At no point is a master's degree noted. If you wanted to find out more about a particular sector, your best guidance would be to contact a recruiter. For the "specialized" positions, it's likely that there are only 1-2 countries (out of the 60something) where PCVs assist that accept volunteers to do those specific jobs. They don't put specific information on the web site because the majority of the volunteers would just do "education" and not something more specifi! c. Peace Corps is far more general than that. There's not a lot of specialization. However, with a degree -- any degree -- and interest in education, you would definitely fit into one of the education or youth development programs, which are plentiful (and in both Morocco and Jordan.)You need a college degree, a good track record of community service, the ability to get through the medical and legal clearances to serve in Peace Corps. That's it. The only other thing that's needed is the patience to get through the yearlong process. If you want to do it, stick with it and you'll be in. Good luck....Show more
