Merlin Fleischhacker: There are DVRs that run a version of Windows Media Center for like $400+ and there are no monthly fees. So as long as MS keeps uploading the servers for Windows Media Center these type of DVRs will work for free. I have seen one at Best Buy before. Tory Clapper: You could always go with a DVD recordable DVR. I don't know if you can get the program guide service or not but you can use the record codes you find in TV Guide and some news papers. You can also record to DVD RAMs, DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW depending on the unit. I'm not real impressed with recording to computer- it does take up a lot of space but if you have the means then go for it. Can you edit and burn to DVD? With the DVD RAM recorder I can edit out commercials but RAM discs are a little expensive. Have a great day!!!...Show more
Kaylee Schmittou: Depends......Do you live in! a large metropolitan area? If you think you can get Over-The-Air HD channels, then get an HD antenna and try it hooked up to you HDTV. IF you can get all/most of the channels you want to record then see if you can get the ATI All-In-Wunder HD PC card for your laptop. OTHERWISE, I guess it's a waiting game. HD technology brings HD security.
