How good is planet fitness?what makes them different from other gyms?

Gaston Edgcomb: It is a two store front franchise operation found in strip malls which limits membership to those who aren't serious body builders. It does that by keeping the free weights low in weight and by supposedly monitoring the facility for signs of behavior against the stated rules. The rules are pretty clear. I would imagine that employees must enforce them. PF is inexpensive relative to other places. There will likely be a promo rate at the start of the new year. Other facilities have more amenities and cost more accordingly. They do have rules, but different ones. Rules are largely ignored by staffs and members at most facilities. If you can join PF without a contract, that would be great. You don't know about a place until you attend it. As there are different owners, you'd need to check the specific one you wish to join for its merits. To compare, get free passes to other places you would consider, like the Y, Lifestyle Fitness, LA fitness, 24 ho! ur sports fitness or whatever is in your community, including a local community center....Show more

Cierra Gadbaw: We don't have them in Canada, but I must say I do like their "lunk alarm" idea. Basically whenever someone acts like a douche (which is every 5 minutes in most gyms) by grunting, dropping weights, not cleaning up after themselves, etc. apparantly a "lunk" alarm goes off as a reminder (and humiliation) to the offender. Wish more gyms did that.
